We're Really Cookin' This Weekend

Seriously!

Forget the chill in the air–this weekend we’ll be warming things up with Chef David MacLennan, Executive Chef at Latitude 41. Join us at the North Market Harvest Festival this Saturday from 8am-12pm, where Chef David will create great dishes with the first of our fall harvest, including winter squash, potatoes and radishes. We can’t wait to watch him work his magic–and taste it too!

After you’ve warmed up with a taste at our stand, be sure to stick around. There’s no shortage of fun at the North Market this weekend, as we all celebrate the growing season with the annual Harvest Festival. For the full event schedule, go to http://www.northmarket.com/activities-and-events/2009-10-03/harvest-festival.

Also this weekend is the Market to Market event, where market goers will ride the Olentangy bike trail from the North Market to The Hills Market (or the other way around). Price of admission covers breakfast and a cone from Jeni’s. And naturally, we’ll be at both ends of the ride, so be sure to say hello. Nationwide Children’s Hospital to Host Farmer’s Markets

Find The Wayward Seed Farm and other farmers there...

COLUMBUS, OH, July 08, 2009 —

Fresh fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods will be available for employees, community residents and visitors at three Farmer’s Markets hosted by Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The first Farmer’s Market will be held on Monday, July 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. near Nationwide Children’s Human Resources building in parking lot E-4.

“The Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Employee Wellness program invites all surrounding communities to our second annual Farmer’s Markets,” said Cindi Solomon, program coordinator. “Local residents are encouraged to shop healthy.”

During the first Farmer’s Market, attendees can browse the market for fresh produce and gather health information. A cooking demonstration from Nationwide Children’s employees Matthew Schenk, executive chef, and Kari DuBro, employee wellness dietitian, will show registered participants how to prepare some of the market’s produce and provide samples. Cooking demonstrations are open to the public by registering with EmployeeWellness@NationwideChildrens.org.

Farmer’s Markets are an initiative of Healthy Neighborhoods, Healthy Families, a public-private community collaborative focusing on neighborhood revitalization in Columbus’ South Side.

“Nationwide Children's Hospital's Farmer's Markets represent a great active living tool for their employees and a commitment to workplace wellness,” said Barb Seckler, director of the Institute for Active Living at Columbus Public Health. “By inviting neighborhood residents to participate, providing them with better access and opportunity for local, nutritious food, Nationwide Children’s is taking this initiative to the next level and Columbus Public Health is pleased to be a partner.”

Future Farmer’s Markets will be held on August 17 and September 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. near Nationwide Children’s Human Resources building.

Dublin Community Market

Announcing Dublin’s First Community Market
A mid-week market providing fresh, local, high quality products comes to downtown Dublin.

COLUMBUS, OH—June 29, 2009: Embracing its historic roots as a farm community, the city of Dublin hosts its first-ever community market, formed by members of the Dublin community, local business owners and farmers. The market will officially commence Wednesday, July 1 at 4:30PM at the Dublin Community Church. Markets will continue each succeeding Wednesday until season’s close on October 28th.

The market features a number of the area’s highest quality producers, with wares ranging from fruits and vegetables to baked goods and dairy products. Unusual to most community markets, the producers played a large role in its creation.

Jaime Moore of The Wayward Seed Farm is one of the market’s producers and founders, passionate about bringing a market to downtown Dublin. “It was a welcome opportunity to help create a market from the farmer’s perspective. As a grower starting a market, we were able to influence its quality—not just products, but services, too. We wanted to create a market that embraces both farmers and marketgoers.”

“We also serve a large number of Dublin residents in our community supported agriculture program (CSA). We liked the idea of better serving them through a more convenient location,” Moore continued.

The market is located in the parking lot of the Dublin Community Church.

Jeff Shaffer, Dublin Community Church Moderator, sees the Market as central to fulfilling the Church’s mission, while paying homage to Dublin’s background as a farming community. "The Dublin Community Church is proud to host the Dublin Community Market. Part of our mission as a church is to provide a 'community center,’ and hosting Dublin’s own seasonal market is a fit from every angle.”

“Additionally, our church hosts the Dublin Food Pantry as well—so we’ll be accepting donations from both the farmers at the weekly event, as well as from the public through food drive initiatives. We couldn’t be more excited,” Shaffer said.

The market’s July 1 opening will also coincide with "Help Us Fill the Pantry's Pantry," a local food drive for the Dublin Community Church. Marketgoers will receive one-dollar discounts at participating Historic Dublin businesses for each donation made.

All media is welcome. Both Moore and Shaffer will be available for interview.
