Thanksgiving CSA

Many of you have asked about our infamous Thanksgiving CSA Share for this year. We are sorry to say we are not able to offer a share similar to years' past, as we don't have quite the fall harvest we'd hoped we would. That being said, we had already made arrangements to offer locally raised, pastured broad breast turkeys available through a cooperative relationship with another farmer. So get your turkeys here, folks! There will be a range of sizes available at the rate of $3.00 per pound. (From 12-22 lbs.)

Turkeys will be available for pickup on Saturday, November 20th at the North Market, from 8AM to 12 noon.

So, what do you do with rutabaga?

A recipe from Chef David MacLennan of Latitude 41:

• 4 rutabaga, peeled and diced
• 2 turnips, peeled and diced
• 1 ripe pear, peeled and diced
• 1 cup heavy cream
• 4 ounces butter
• 2 teaspoons butter
• salt and pepper

Boil the rutabaga in salted water for 10 minutes, then add turnips and pears, and cook until all are tender. Drain and let dry for a moment, then transfer to a blender or food processor. Add cream and butter and season with nutmeg, salt and pepper to taste.

The cost is $165 for Turkey and $130 for Hubbard Squash. Payment is due at the time of reservation.

The time of year is upon us once again to think about cooler weather, fall vegetables and Thanksgiving.

This year, with some assistance from Toad Hill Farm, The Wayward Seed Farm will offer an "Ohio Farm Fresh Thanksgiving" CSA. Included in the CSA:

-One 16-20lb. Free Range Pasture Turkey or One Hubbard Squash
-Green Mountain Potatoes
-Beauregard Sweet Potatoes
-King Richard Leeks
-Rainbow Carrots
-Shunkyo and/or Watermelon Radishes
-Early Wonder Tall Top and/or Chioggia Beets
-Hakurei and/or Scarlett Queen Red Stem Turnips
-Swiss Chard
-Braising Greens
-Salad Greens
-Pate Brisee Pie Crust
-Winter Luxury Pie Pumpkin
-Butternut or Buttercup Squash
